Dear Roots Community:

The time has finally come that we have known would arrive since November — Roots is closing its doors. While we are sad to say goodbye, we are proud of our scholars hard work and many accomplishments since our opening in Fall 2015. We have partnered with our families to ensure that each of our scholars participated in round one of the school choice process for next year, and have met with many of the schools they’ll attend in order to set them up for success in the coming year.

Since launch, our school has provided a supportive environment for students who were looking for a school to best meet their needs. We are proud of the work we have done to meet the socio-emotional and academic needs of the many scholars that came through our doors over the past four years.

We will forever remember our scholars with stories like Adrian (name changed). Adrian came to us as a kindergartner three years ago with significant social and emotional needs. We knew that he was a very brilliant child but his needs got in the way of him performing at grade level. After working extensively with his family and a team of mental health providers, we were able to establish a plan for Adrian so that when he was upset, he had a separate space and routine to de-escalate. As time when on, Adrian used his de-escalation plan less and less, leading to him being in class more frequently. He is leaving Roots well-prepared to succeed in a new setting and having grown above grade level in both reading and math.

We are incredibly grateful to our families, broader community, and partners near and far who have supported Roots’ journey along the way. Thank you for all you’ve done for our scholars and will continue to do for kids and for Park Hill going forward.

In partnership,

Tawnya Ramirez, Board President
Stephanie Itelman, Interim Executive Director
